In August this year, director Zack Snyder dropped a teaser trailer for his longer, alternative version of 2017's Justice League, which sees Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and the Flash (Ezra Miller) team up to take down the villain Darkseid. It offered little by way of new footage, combining scenes from earlier trailers that hadn't made it into the film with a few additional glimpses of the characters. We got to see the Flash rescue a girl from a flipped car, Wonder Woman talking to a schoolgirl and Cyborg's father die in an experiment.

A new trailer, released on the three-year anniversary of the film's theatrical release has much of the same footage and is similarly set to Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. New additions include shots of Cyborg mourning his father's death at the cemetery and later redirecting incoming missiles, Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) fighting and a glimpse of the Batmobile firing at aliens. The director also released a black-and-white version of the same trailer on his Twitter account.

When Synder stepped down from Justice League in May 2017, following the death of his daughter, director Joss Whedon took over, writing and shooting an additional 80 pages of screenplay. His final two-hour-long cut was half the length Snyder had initially submitted to Warner Brothers. When that film released in November and was planned, fans began demanding that the studio release Snyder's version of the film.

The director has since said his cut will premiere as four one-hour-long installments on HBO Max in 2021. Though he confirmed that Jared Leto's Joker would also appear in the film, the character isn't in the trailer.
