In the newly-released trailer of late director SP Jananathan's Laabam (profit), we get a clearer idea of what the film's going to be about. Opening to a shot of a corporate honcho discussing his future plans, we see the model of a giant factory that's going to come up in a remote rural location. In first viewing, it seems like a clash between the owners of this mega factory and the small farmers who live there doing basic agricultural work.

Even the term profit can be heard many times suggesting a conflict between two major ideologies capitalism and socialism. Jagapathi Babu, who plays the corporate company owner, looks at wider and better roads as infrastructure but not to develop the village but as a supply chain to get more productions to newer consumers.

The term infrastructure too gets a mention again when Vijay Sethupathi's character calls the farms, the lakes and the irrigation system created by farmers and their forefathers as infrastructure too, apart from dams, factories and roads. Overall, an interesting first look at a film that suggests two different ways of looking at the same developmental issues.

An earlier trailer, released a year ago, hinted that the film would be a clash between a farmer (played by Vijay Sethupathi) and a corporate leader played by Jagapathi Babu. From crypto currency to the books of Marx and Engels, the trailer suggested that it would be a perfect addition to the director's left leaning ideology.

Apart from Sethupathi, the film also stars Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Sai Dhansika, Kalaiyarasan and Ramesh Thilak. The film was directed by late SP Jananathan, who had previously worked with the lead actor in Purampokku. The screenplay is by N Kalyan Krishnan and the music is by D Imman. The film was shot by Ramji and the film was produced by Vijay Sethupathi.

The film is releasing in theatres on September 10, along with Kangana starrer Thalaivi.
