In Anurag Kashyap's new film Manmarziyaan Vicky Kaushal is Vicky, a Punjabi rapper. He's dating Rumi (Taapsee Pannu). They are madly in love. At one point, as they lie on the bed he suggests that they elope. "Right now?" asks an excited Rumi. Not right now though, says Vicky. "Abbhi nahi oye, abhi toh Mummy ko gobi ke paranthe banane bol ke aaya hoon," he says as he takes another toke of the joint.

Enter Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan), the foreign-returned 'Husband material' (the film's English title for festivals abroad) Rumi's family has chosen for her. Decent guy; she doesn't love him yet, but love will grow in the future, she says.

Manmarziyaan looks like Kashyap's take on the conventional Indian love triangle. "This September, do what the heart wants…" reads the film's tagline. And going by the trailer, without any visible violence or out-there swear words, this could turn out to be Kashyap's sweetest film till date – although the signature dry humour is very much there. Amit Trivedi's bouncy Punjabi pop soundtrack sounds smooth.

Story, screenplay and dialogue is by Kanika Dhillon. Produced by Aanand L Rai and Phantom Films, Manmarziyaan will release on 14 September.
