Nenjuku Needhi is the Tamil remake of the 2019 Hindi film Article 15. Udhayanidhi Stalin plays the role of an IPS officer who investigates a crime, essayed by Ayushmann Khurrana in the original. The film's title is named after Udhayanidhi Stalin's grandfather and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's autobiography.
The film delves into the layers of caste politics and oppression in society. There is an evident difference in the way upper caste and lower caste people are treated, be it for water and food or even justice. What happens when an honest police officer tries to change it? When a group of Dalit girls are raped and murdered, will he be able to get them justice? This forms the plot of Nenjuku Needhi, which translates to "Justice for the heart".
Nenjuku Needhi goes by the tagline "Born Equal". The trailer gives us glimpses of scenes that highlights the caste differences and the sufferings of the marginalized people. While it shows how Udhayanidhi Stalin is taking on the caste system, the characters in the film also keep questioning, "If everyone becomes equal, then who is the king?".
