There's a lot that is at stake in the universe of Street Dancer 3D. It is set in London. There's nationalism (India-Pakistan). There's poverty (Homeless-Housed). There's art (Dance for yourself-Dance for others). Binaries of love-hate, truth-lies, swades-pardes also fill up the almost-three minute long trailer. As a viewer, you are not entirely sure what the "primary" conflict is.

Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor fall on opposite ends of the India-Pakistan binary. Varun Dhawan and Prabhu Deva fall on opposite ends of the Dance for yourself-Dance for others binary (Dance to express-Dance to impress in ABCD 2). Aparshakti Khurrana appears to play a homeless man who seems to have been lied to. What the lies are and what the homeless have to do with dance and the cross country love affair isn't made clear.

Varun Dhawan has an easy, earnest charm perched on his frequently exhibited abs. Shraddha Kapoor has stoic beauty (The "street" in street dancer is supposed to be reflected in her winged eye-liner, silver hoops, and fishnets). On screen together, they mostly flow. The trailer shows how over the course of the competition they realize not how different, but how similar they are (they kiss). Such is the beauty of dance- locking, popping, and twerking to remixed classics. (Muqabala Muqabala- the latest casualty)

Directed by Remo D'Souza, written by Tushar Hiranandani, and produced by T-Series, the film releases on January 24, 2020. (In 3D and otherwise)
