The Big Bull is based, like Hansal Mehta's Scam 1992, on the Harshad Mehta story. Abhishek A Bachchan plays Hemant, the character based on Mehta, who decides to invest in and then manipulate the stock market to make great profits. After all, as he says in the trailer, in India, we can do anything – bribe the police, threaten the media, buy people off – as long as we don't get caught.
Hemant and his shifty schemes go up against a lawyer played by Ram Kapoor (whom we see getting cornered in the loo) and a journalist played by Ileana D'Cruz (reportedly based on Sucheta Dalal). The journalist, in particular, unearths uneasy truths and begins to pursue the case. Meanwhile, we also see Hemant fall in love, and vow to become India's first billionaire. He's also confronted with the possibility that one of his own men is leaking secrets.
The rest of the cast includes Nikita Dutta, Saurabh Shukla, Sohum Shah, Supriya Pathak, Shishir Sharma and Mahesh Manjrekar. The film is directed by Kookie Gulati, written by Gulati and Arjun Dhawan (with dialogue by Ritesh Shah), and streams on Disney+ Hotstar on April 8th.
