Jake Gyllenhaal plays Joe Bayler, a troubled police detective who has been demoted to a 911 operator. The Guilty takes place over the course of a single morning. Joe gets a call from a person in grave danger, being kidnapped and dragged across LA in a car, while the city is clouded in smoke from a forest fire. Visibility — both in this case and in the city — is minimal.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Southpaw, The Magnificent 7) the film also stars Ethan Hawke, Riley Keough, Eli Goree, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Paul Dano, and Peter Sarsgaard.
The Guilty is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2021. There will be a limited release on September 24, and the film premieres on Netflix on October 1.
