A day before Mammootty's first release post-Covid The Priest, we got the trailer of his much-delayed political drama One. Signifying both the capital district Thiruvananthapuram and the Chief Minister's license plate number, the film's title may also be read as the story of the most important person in the State.
The pattern of the trailer is similar to many other recent big budget projects where we barely get a sense of plot and storyline. The two and a half minute trailer focuses more on introducing us to the long line of actors who will be acting in the film.
First impressions suggest that the film could be dealing with the politics similar to that of the Congress party. The participation of actors such as Jagadeesh and Salim Kumar too suggests this connection.
The trailer opens with a 'hero introduction' where people are voicing different opinions about their leader. This even includes a derogatory remark about the CM's caste.
Mammootty's performance, at least in first viewing, appears to be that of a more subtle and controlled politician who does not believe in extensive dialogue delivery. Except for a line about how he is the CM of every citizen of Kerala and not just the people who voted for him, most of his appearances in the trailer appears to be subdued.
Directed by Santosh Viswanath, credited for making Malayalam cinema's first spoof film Chirakodinja Kinavukal, the film was originally slated for release early last year (May 22).
Another highlight of the film is that is scripted by Bobby and Sanjay in their second collaboration with the star after VK Prakash's Nirnayakam. The duo is also writing Salute, starring Dulquer Salman, the news of which was announced earlier this week.
According to reports, Mammootty is playing a character named Kadakkal Chandran, the Chief Minister of Kerala. Other prominent actors in the film include Siddique, Balachandran Menon, Joju George, Murali Gopy and Nimisha Sajayan.

The timing of the political drama's release is also interesting as Kerala is all set to go to polls with the assembly elections starting early next month.
Music is by Gopi Sundar and the film's DOP is Vaidy S.
On Women's day, the actor had also announced his new film titled Puzhu, with Parvathy Thiruvothu as his co-star.
After Lucifer, another political thriller, One is riding on a lot of expectations.
