Shankar Salim Simon (1978)

This Tamil remake of Amar Akhbar Anthony was released only a year after the film released in 1977. Rajnikanth also made a Telugu remake of the film called Ram Rahim Robert. He plays Simon in the Tamil remake and Ram in the Telugu remake.

Billa (1980)

This huge hit was a remake of the famous Bollywood gangster film 'Don'.

Velaikkaran (1987)

The 1982 Prakash Mehra- Amitabh Bacchan film 'Namak Halal' was remade into 'Velaikkaaran' in 1987. Rajnikanth even delivered the famous "I can talk English" dialogue, in his own style.

Dharmathin Thalaivan (1988)

In this remake of the 1978 film 'Kasme Vadee', Rajnikanth charmingly played the dual role.

Panakkaran (1990)

The 1981 film 'Laawaris' was remade into 'Panakkaran' in 1990.

Maaveeran (1986)

A remake of the Manmohan Desai picture 'Mard' (1985) in which Bacchan delivers the iconic dialogue "Mard ko dard nahi hota". Rajnikanth played the lead after Sivaji Ganeshan dropped the project.

This blockbuster was the remake of the iconic 1975 Amitabh Bacchan film 'Deewar'
