In 1974, Guinness Book of World Records listed Lata Mangeshkar as the most-recorded artist in history, who reportedly recorded more than 25,000 songs in 20 Indian languages between 1948 and 1974. Until her demise, she had recorded 50,000 songs.
Lata's record was replaced by her younger sister Asha, who was listed in the Guinness Book in 2011 for recording over 12,000 songs in several languages.
As per some sources, SPB held the Guinness Record for recording over 40,000 songs in around 16 languages. He also created several records for recording maximum songs in a day in several languages.
Mohammed Rafi had contested Lata's record of singing the most number of songs as he claimed to have sung almost 28,000 songs in 11 Indian languages and subsequently got listed with Lata in the Guinness Book.
