It was with the 1964 Rajshri Productions' film that composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal hit the big time. The movie which became a major hit despite its fairly obscure cast, had the music as one of the key reasons for its success. While the soundtrack had one song by the person Laxmikant-Pyarelal reportedly owed their film career to, Lata Mangeshkar, the star of the album was Mohammed Rafi with his spectacular rendition of five of the album's melodic pieces, one of which even won him a Filmfare that year. The songs also gained immensely from Majrooh Sultanpuri's soulful lines about friendship and love.
Best Song of Dosti: It is always difficult for me to choose a favourite between Chahoonga Main Tujhe, Rahi Manwa and Mera Toh Jo Bhi Kadam Hai, the work of genius that each of them is. For this article though, I will go with Rahi Manwa that, aside of Sultanpuri's philosophical lines and the beautiful melody, had R D Burman's fine harmonica skills as one of its musical highlights.
