Following 2016's superhit film Dangal, Aamir Khan is back with another film about women's empowerment – Secret Superstar. Starring Zaira Wasim (of Dangal fame) as Insiya, a young Muslim girl with hopes of being a world-renowned singer, Secret Superstar chronicles her journey as she overcomes several obstacles to go from being a bedroom-singer to an internet sensation.
In one scene of the trailer, we see her conservative father cut off the strings of her guitar after an argument, leaving the young girl in tears. Khan also has a small part of Shakti Kumar, a famous music director-cum-talent show judge. His words of inspiration like – "Tum jaise talented bachche sode mein is bubbles ki tarah hote hai. Woh aise hi upar aata hai, apne aap. Unhe koi nahi rok sakta" – inspire her to follow her dreams.
Written and directed by debutant Advait Chandan, the film will feature music by the acclaimed Amit Trivedi. Chandan has previously worked as an assistant director on such films as Dhobi Ghat and Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.
Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Secret Superstar is set to release on 19th October.
