In Bulbbul, written and directed by Anvita Dutt, the five-year-old Bulbbul (Tripti Dimri) is married off to the wealthy, much older Indranil (Rahul Bose). Twenty years later, men in her village begin dying mysteriously. How are the two events connected?
Set in 19th century Bengal and featuring powerful performances by Dimri, Bose, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam and Parambrata Chatterjee, the horrors in Bulbbul don't stem from witches or ghouls, but from the systematic ways in which the patriarchy oppresses.
