Written by Nitesh Tiwari and Shreyas Jain (the writers of Dangal), Bareilly Ki Barfi is based on the French novel The Ingredients of Love by Nicolas Barreau. This film was director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's sophomore effort, after last year's Nil Battey Sannata. It went on to become the sleeper-hit of 2017.

Bitti Mishra (Kriti Sanon), a young, modern girl, feels suffocated by her small town surroundings in Bareilly. Unopposed to the idea of marriage, she merely desires someone who will love her for what she is, warts and all. Things start looking up when Bitti comes across the novel Bareilly Ki Barfi whose female protagonist sounds exactly like her – she smokes, drinks and enjoys breakdancing.

As she sets about hunting down the man who wrote the book, Bitti ends up meeting Chirag Dubey (Ayushmann Khurrana), the owner of a local printing press, and his timid friend Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar Rao), a salesman at a sari shop.

What follows is a fun, lighthearted tale full of interesting twists and one of the most memorable makeovers since Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The best moments undoubtedly belong to Rajkummar Rao who plays a character with dual personalities in the film. The cast also features some excellent performances by actors Seema Pahwa and Pankaj Tripathi who play Bitti's parents.
