Thalapathy Vijay’s film with Venkat Prabhu titled 'The Greatest Of All Time' (Tamil)

The makers of Thalapathy Vijay’s next film with Venkat Prabhu recently unveiled the title and posters of the film. The title of Thalapathy 68 was finally revealed to be The Greatest Of All Time (G.O.A.T). The first-look poster of the film sees the Leo star in two avatars, one aged and another de-aged while they bumped fists at an airport hangar, wearing Air Force suits.  Now, the makers have released the second-look of the film which shows both Vijays again but this time in suits in the midst of a hot pursuit on a motorcycle. The film has the classic Venkat Prabhu tagline, ‘A Venkat Prabhu Hero.’

The G.O.A.T is directed by Venkat Prabhu, who also co-writes the screenplay along with Viji. It is backed by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Ganesh, and Suresh under the AGS Entertainment banner. The film has music by Prabhu’s long-term collaborator Yuvan Shankar Raja, who scores for Vijay for the first time. Siddhartha Nuni of Lucia, VTK, and Captain Miller fame handles the cinematography with Venkat Raajen editing. The film has an ensemble cast of Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Yogi Babu, and Jayaram.

Diganth’s Bachelor Party gets a release date (Kannada)

The makers of the upcoming comedy Bachelor Party announced that the Diganth and Yogesh starrer would be released on January 26, 2024. The comedy is written and directed by Abhijith Mahesh in his directorial debut. The writer has been part of Rakshit Shetty’s writing team, ‘The Seven Odds’, and has co-written the films Kirik Party and Avane Srimmanarayana.

Bachelor Party is backed by Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios. It stars Diganth Manchale, Yogesh, Achyuth Kumar, Achara Kirk, Siri Ravikumar, and Prakash Tumminad. It is also set to have Shetty in a cameo appearance.

Ankita Amar and Brinda Acharya join the cast of Nirup Bhandari’s next (Kannada)

Nirup Bhandari is all set to collaborate with debutant director Sachin Vaali in a commercial entertainer. The makers have now onboarded actors Brinda Acharya and Ankita Amar to the cast of the film. Acharya starred in this year’s hit social film Kausalya Supraja Rama while Ankita Amar will be seen in the upcoming romantic drama Ibbani Tabbida Ileyalli. The untitled film is backed by Ankit Sonigara and Prakash Mulage under the Ankett Cinemas banner. Sachin Basrur handles the music while Sandeep Valluri handles the cinematography.

Made in Bengaluru’s Madhusudhan Govind stars in Friday (Kannada)

The makers of the upcoming bilingual Friday recently announced the film as well as the cast list. The cast of Friday includes Madhusudhan Govind and Shruthi Prakash. Govind starred in last year’s start-up comedy Made in Bengaluru while Shruthi Prakash of Bigg Boss fame will be opposite him. The film is said to be a thriller and the first-look poster includes a movie theatre and a ticket. Friday is directed by director duo Keerthi Shekar and Vyshak Pushpalatha of Hosa Dinachari fame. Backed by Mirtyunjay Shukla and Alok Chaurasia’s Dees Films, Friday will be filmed in both Kannada and Hindi.

Nivin Pauly is back in Dijo Jose Antony’s Malayalee From India (Malayalam)

Actor Nivin Pauly is teaming up with Jana Gana Mana director Dijo Jose Antony on a new comedy entertainer. Titled Malayalee From India, the makers of the film released a six-minute promo to announce the film. The quirky promo video shows Jose Antony trying to convince Nivin Pauly to act in the film.

Malayalee From India is directed by Dijo Jose Antony, from a screenplay penned by Sharis Mohammed. The film also stars Anaswara Rajan, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Manju Pillai, Shine Tom Chacko, and more. It is backed by Nivin Pauly’s Jr. Pictures and Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames. Jakes Bejoy serves as the music composer while Sudeep Elamon handles the cinematography.

Nani’s Hi Nanna gets an OTT release date (Telugu)

Actor Nani’s second release of the year after Dasara, Shouryuv’s Hi Nanna released earlier this month to rave reviews and commercial success. The film also starred Mrunal Thakur and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles along with Baby Kiara Khanna. The makers have now announced that the film will be releasing on Netflix on January 4, 2024. Hi Nanna is backed by Mohan Cherkuri and Dr. Mohan Reddy Teegala under the Vyra Entertainments banner. Hridiyam and Khushi fame Hesham Abdul Wahab handled the music while Sanu John Varghese handled the cinematography.

Tovino Thomas’ Anveshippin Kanddethum gets a release date (Malayalam)

Tovino Thomas has a huge lineup of films for the upcoming year. He stars in films such as Identity, Nadigar Thilagan, and L2: Empyrean in the upcoming year. His next film Anveshin Kanddethum recently received its release date. The makers of the investigative thriller announced that the film would be released on February 9, 2024.

Directed and backed by Darwin Kuriakose along with Dolwin Kuriakose under the Theatre of Dreams banner, Anveshippin Kanddethum is written by Jinu V Abraham of Kaduva fame. The film also stars Siddique, Indrans, Shammy Thilakan, Baburaj, Vineeth Thattil, Ramya Suvi, Harisree Ashokan, and Rahul Rajagopal among others. Santhosh Narayanan handles the music while Gautham Sankar is the cinematographer.

Kunchacko Boban’s Grrr gets its first look poster (Malayalam)

The makers of Kunchacko Boban’s next film Grrr released the first-look poster of the comedy. The poster sees Boban and Suraj Venjaramoodu in front of what looks like a lion. The film is said to center around a drunkard who stumbles into a lion enclosure and the chaos that ensues after. It is directed by Jay K of Ezra fame, who also co-writes the film along with Praveen S.

Grrr also stars Shruti Ramachandran, Rajesh Madhavan, Anagha, and Shobi Thilakan. It is backed by Shaji Nadesan and Arya, with Jayesh Nair and Dawn Vincent handling the cinematography and music respectively.

Prabhas’s next with Maruthi to get its first look and title soon (Telugu)

Actor Prabhas is riding high on the success of his pan-Indian action film Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire. The actor has a huge slate of upcoming films, including Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, and the upcoming Maruthi directorial. The makers of the yet-to-be-titled film announced that the title and first look of the film will be unveiled on Pongal 2024. It has been widely speculated that the title would be Raja Deluxe. Nani’s Saripodhaa Sanivaaram wraps first schedule (Telugu)

After the success of Hi Nanna, Nani will be seen next in the action drama Saripodhaa Sanivaaram. The makers of the film recently announced that the film has completed its first schedule of filming. The film reunites Nani with director Vivek Athreya, who helmed 2022’s romantic comedy Ante Sundaraniki. Nani will be starring alongside Priyanka Mohan and SJ Suryah in the upcoming action entertainer. The film is backed by DVV Danayya under the DVV Entertainment banner and has music by Jakes Bejoy, while Murali G handles the cinematography.

Noted actor and politician ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth passes away (Tamil)

Vijayakanth, fondly known as Captain, breathed his last on December 28. The actor was reportedly admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after complications with pneumonia and was reportedly also affected by COVID-19. Actors such as Vijay, Vijay Antony, and others attended the funeral of the prominent star. 

Vijayakanth was known for his brand of revolutionary films which usually centered around a social issue. The actor starred in multiple hits in the 80s and 90s in films such as Ramanna, Sattam Oru Iruttarai, and Vaidehi Kaathirundhal. He also founded the political party DMDK which became the leader of the opposition in 2011. He is survived by his two sons and wife Premalatha.

Veteran Actor and Politician Vijayakanth Passes Away

Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 1 & Part 2 will be screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival (Tamil)

Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 1 was released earlier this year to great commercial and critical success. The film starred Suri in his first lead role and also starred Vijay Sethupathi and Gautam Vasudev Menon in pivotal roles. The political thriller was lauded for its portrayal of systemic injustices and the performance of Soori, who had only done comedic roles till then. The makers recently announced that both parts of the film would be screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in 2024 under the limelight category. Part 2 of the film is yet to be released in theatres.

Ram’s Yezhu Mazhai Yezhu Kadal to get its glimpse on this date (Tamil)

Director Ram is all set to return to the big screen with the drama Yezhu Mazhai Yezhu Kadal, which stars Nivin Pauly. The film is set to have its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The makers announced that the first glimpse of the film will be released on January 2, 2024. The announcement came with a poster that sees Nivin Pauly in a rugged avatar, sporting long hair, and a beard, treading on an an empty road with only a dog for company. The film also stars Anjali and Soori in pivotal roles. Backed by Suresh Kamatchi under the V House Productions banner, the film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography by NK Ekambharam.

Mammootty’s Bramayugam gets another intense poster (Malayalam)

With the new year, a new poster of Mammootty’s upcoming horror film Bramayugam was released. The poster of the film have been received extremely well by the fans of the actor. They have a distinct monochrome visual style, reminiscent of the horror films of Robert Eggers (The VVitch and The Lighthouse). It also shows Mammootty in a new, anti-hero avatar. The second poster of the film continues the visual style of the previous ones and sees Mammootty wearing traditional headgear while sitting in a state of trance. The tagline says, ‘The Age of Madness’.

Bramayugam is a horror thriller directed by Rahul Sadasivan, who co-writes the film along with TD Ramakrishnan. The film is backed by Chakravarthy Ramachandra and S Sasikanth under the Night Shifts Studios and Y Not Studios banners. Night Shifts Studios is a production house that is dedicated to producing horror films. The Malayalam film also stars Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Barathan. Christo Xavier handles the music while Shehnad Jalal handles the cinematography.
