Wake Up Sid (2009) is a delightful coming-of-age film that throws light on the pleasures and pain of adulthood. Director Ayan Mukerji wrote it when he was 24-years-old. Ranbir Kapoor is Sid – a rich, spoilt slacker who storms out of home after he fails his college exams. He finds an unlikely roommate in Aisha (Konkona Sen Sharma) an older, more mature journalist who has just moved to Mumbai. Together they make a great team – Sid discovers his passion for photography and Aisha pursues her dream of writing.
The film is bolstered by great performances by not just its leads but also the support cast that includes Supriya Pathak, who plays Sid's doting mother, and Shikha Talsania and Namit Das, who play Sid's best friends. Shot entirely in Mumbai, the film is something of an ode to the city of dreams, with the film ending at the sea front as the first shower of monsoon hits the city.
