Arjun Patiala, a goofball comedy that comes across as the well-meaning friend at a party who drunkenly tries his bad puns on everyone to no avail, is yet another turkey that undersells his talent. It's mostly harmless and unfunny – perhaps 5 of 50 jokes land, an atrocious rate for a film that manages to rope in cameos by Pankaj Tripathi, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Abhishek Banerjee, Sumit Gulati and Seema Pahwa.
Arjun Patiala, directed by Rohit Jugraj, feels like an extension of some of actor Diljit Dosanjh's popular Punjabi movies. Like his Punjabi comedy films, this too is loud, slapstick and the characters are over-animated. In fact, Jugraj has directed Dosanjh twice before in the movies Sardaar Ji and Sardaarji 2. Here, Dosanjh plays a bumbling cop, a character that is reminiscent of the one he played in Jatt and Juliet 2. Actress Kriti Sanon appears to be playing a TV journalist. To be fair, the trailer acknowledges all its cliches – that this is yet another cop film, Varun Sharma is once again sidekick to the hero, and that there's a mandatory Sunny Leone item song. The film has some fine actors in its supporting cast like Seema Pahwa, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Ronit Roy.
