Director Raaj Shaandilyaa’s spiritual sequel to the 2019 comedy Dream Girl sees Ayushmann Khurrana’s Karam dressing up as a woman to resolve his family’s financial woes. Dream Girl 2, which also stars Ananya Panday, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav and Vijay Raaz, had a strong opening weekend at the box office.
Despite coming out on the heels of blockbuster hit Gadar 2 (2023), the steadily performing OMG 2 (2023) and Rajinikanth’s long-awaited Jailer (2023), Dream Girl 2 collected Rs. 10.69 crore on its opening day, according to box office trackers Sacnilk Entertainment. The numbers picked up to Rs. 14.02 crore on Saturday and approximately Rs. 16 crore on Sunday.
Dream Girl 2, which currently stands at a net total of Rs. 40.71 crore, has had the biggest opening in Ayushmann Khurrana’s career so far, surpassing Bala (Rs. 10.15 crore) and the first Dream Girl (Rs 10.05 crore). It is a return to form for the actor, whose last few films failed to perform at the box office. It remains to be seen if Dream Girl 2 will outperform its predecessor, which is Khurrana’s biggest hit to date with a lifetime collection of Rs. 142 crore.
