Bengali Films Releasing This Durga Puja

Over the years Durga puja has come up as the most coveted date for Bengali releases, with high-profile films often slotted for the big date. This changed last year when Covid struck. Even though Bengal saw a record number of releases (10!) in 2020, these were largely smaller films, with producers still unsure whether the audience are ready to visit the theatres. 2021 looks brighter. With a sense of normalcy coming back — No Time To Die For has fared decently at the Indian box office — the pujo releases this year will see stars Dev and Jeet battle it out. Here's the list of films releasing on October 10. 

F.I.R

The twin murders in Raghunathpur follow a pattern. A senior officer, the no-nonsense Abhrajit Dutta, is brought by the authorities to investigate. Not everyone in the small town in Birbhum seem happy about it. Joydeep Mukherjee's cop thriller stars Ankush Hazra in the lead, besides Ritabhari Chakraborty, Santilal Mukherjee and Bony Sengupta.  

Golondaaj

The big-ticket release this pujo is the Dev-starrer biopic of Nagendra Prasad Sarbhadhikari, known as the man who kicked off Indian football. Dhrubo Banerjee's film, set in the 1800s, marries the sports movie and India's freedom struggle. Also featuring Anirban Bhattacharya and Isha Saha in the cast. 

Bony

A happily married Bengali couple (Parambrata Chatterjee, Koel Mullick) in Italy faces a crisis when she undergoes a miscarriage. Enter an evil Artificial Intelligence-driven conspiracy that turns human babies into bots. Directed by Chatterjee, the film moves back to Kolkata. Cast includes Anjan Dutt and Kanchan Mullick among others. 

Baazi

This remake of 2016 Telugu hit Nannaku Prematho sees Jeet as the wronged businessman's son out to avenge his father's betrayal at the hands of a hammy villain, played by Sabyasachi Chakraborty. Mimi Chakraborty plays the female lead. 

Shororipu 2 Jotugriho

Ayan Chakrabarti's lurid thriller revolving around crime of passion driven by the six human vices returns with a sequel. It stars Chiranjit as the detective Chandrakanta.

Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri 

Aniket Chattopadhyay's fairytale parable, featuring Saswata Chatterjee as the kind benevolent king, recalls Ray's Hirak Rajar Deshe in the way it married political allegory and rhyming. Kharaj Mukherjee plays the evil mantri Gobuchandra and Kabir Suman helms the music. Instead of a theatre release, the film will have a TV premiere on Jalsha movies.
