In Sudhir Mishra’s Afwaah (2023), a man who works in advertising (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and a woman with political ties (Bhumi Pednekar) are on the run from the system. In the process, they get embroiled in a rumour that has been manufactured to keep them from moving freely. Tackling complex and controversial subjects like fake news and toxic politics, the film made approximately Rs 25 lakh on its opening day, according to Dainik Jagran. The first weekend didn’t see much improvement with Afwaah collecting Rs 95 lakh.
In contrast, Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story made Rs 8.03 crore on its opening day and saw a steady increase in box office collections. It made Rs 11.22 crore and Rs 16 crore on its second and third day respectively, reports Bollywood Hungama. The film’s earnings surpassed that of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which made Rs 7.50 crore on its first day (May 5), and Rs 9 crore on the day after, reports Bollywood Hungama.
