Anushka Sharma is set to start filming for Chakda 'Xpress – a film based on the life of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami. Set in 2008, the film centers upon a relatively unknown Indian women's cricket team struggling to make themselves seen in an otherwise cricket crazy nation, as they prepare for a match against heavyweights Australia. The commentary in the background suggests that no one expects anything out of the team, with no fans at the stadium.
Such is the condition of the team that the jerseys given to them too have names of the male players instead of their own. They go on to write their own names and paste them with cellotape before entering the empty stadium. There enters captain Goswami (Sharma), announcing that just the way they've entered their names on the jerseys, they'll also establish their identities soon enough.
Goswami is one of the most prolific and decorated cricketers of all time. Born in Chakdaha in West Bengal, she earned the title of Chakdaha Express after becoming one of the fastest bowlers in women's cricket.
Directed by Prosit Roy (Pari), the film is produced by Karnesh Ssharma and Anushka Sharma's Clean Slate Filmz, which will return to Netflix after Bulbbul.
