 Thadam

Director: Magizh Thirumeni

A wonderful thriller, this film takes the whodunit genre and gives it a different twist, leaving viewers guessing. The film stars Arun Vijay, Tanya Hope and Sonia Aggrawal. Director Magizh Thirumeni (Known for voicing Anurag Kashyap in Imaikkaa Nodigal) has also directed the Arun Vijay-starrer Thadaiyara Thaaka.

 Dharmadurai

Director: Seenu Ramasamy

A nostalgic film on the lines of Autograph, this film has some impressive performances from leads Vijay Sethupathi, Tammannah and Aishwarya Rajesh. Set against a rural backdrop, the plot revolves around Dr Dharmadurai, his struggles with alcoholism and his eventual redemption.

Udhayam NH4

Director:  Manimaaran

A slick road movie, this film follows a similar non-linear narrative pattern as Polladhavan. It is produced by Vetri Maaran and stars Siddharth, Ashritha Shetty and Kay Kay Menon.

Sivappu Mangal Pachai

Director: Sasi

Character clashes always make for a great screenplay and if the actors are good, it translates into great on-screen chemistry too. SMP is a mix of many things — clash of characters, sibling love and angst, a romance, and a villain out to ruin lives. Director Sasi effortlessly weaves all strands together in this film starring Siddharth, GV Prakash and Lijomol Jose.

K-13

Director: Barath Neelakantan

An underrated suspense thriller starring Arulnithi and Shraddha Srinath, made by debut director Barath Neelakantan. Arulnithi's character wakes up to see a dead woman strapped to a chair. What happens next or what happened before? Music is by Sam CS.

Miruthan

Director: Shakti Soundar Rajan

Touted as Tamil cinema's first zombie movie, this film is an amalgamation of melodrama and zombie tropes from many George A Romero movies. The film is an entertaining watch for viewers unaware of the genre. Starring Jayam Ravi, Lakshmi Menon and Sriman.

Thanga Meenkal

Director: Ram

Ram's second venture after the critically acclaimed Kattradhu Thamizh explores the intricate relationship between a father and his daughter. Though an average grosser during its theatrical run, the film went on to win three National Awards for best film, lyrics, and child artist. Starring Ram, Sadhana, Padmapriya and Rohini. The soundtrack by Yuvan Shankar Raja also included the lilting 'Aanandha Yaazhai'.

Kazhugu

Director: Sathyasiva

The film has an intriguing plot line based on real-life characters whose sole duty is to recover from the depths of a cliff, the bodies of those who ended their lives. This sleeper hit stars Krishna, Bindu Madhavi, Karunas and Thambi Ramaiah.

Mayakkam Yenna

Director: Selvaraghavan

A gifted photographer questions every lifechoice of his and never realises the hurt he unleashes on his love, in this film directed by Selvaraghavan. Apart from a stellar Dhanush, the film showcased a dignified performance by Richa Gangopadhyay. Selvaraghavan also shifted from his frequent musical collaborator Yuvan Shankar Raja to GV Prakash in this film, which co-starred Sunder Ramu, Mathivanan Rajendran and Pooja Devariya.

Vaagai Sooda Vaa

Director: Sarkunam

After the success of their first film Kalavaani, Sarkunam and actor Vemal's second collaboration received critical acclaim for its storyline, which is about education in rural India, and issues such as caste. The film is set in the 1960s and went on to win the National Award for Best Tamil feature film and also bagged four State awards.

LKG

Director: KR Prabhu

Political satire is a well-received genre in Tamil cinema, from Cho Ramasaamy's Thuglak in the 60s to Manivannan's Amaidhi Padai in 1994. The genre still manages to be a crowd puller. Written by its lead actor RJ Balaji and friends, LKG released along with two biggies (Petta & Viswasam) and turned out to be a super hit. Apart from RJ Balaji, the cast includes Priya Anand, Nanjil Sampath and Santhana Bharathi.
