In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sharad Kelkar shared an advice that Shah Rukh Khan gave him that had a deep impact on him.

Recalling an event that happened around 15 years ago, Kelkar said, “It was either Singapore or London, I can’t remember. I was part of a three-day carnival where you get two slots and you have to interact with the audience. I was supposed to go on stage after Shah Rukh sir. As per the schedule, I was supposed to be done by 11 so I told my wife that we will go out for shopping after that.”

Khan was supposed to be on stage for half an hour but stayed longer than he was supposed to. “I said ‘Sir, you were supposed to be on the stage for half an hour but you were there for an hour and a half’. He said, ‘I work more than I am paid for’,” he recalled.

Kelkar answered with this anecdote in response to the question if he ever felt discriminated against for being a TV actor. Khan started his career on television with Fauji (1989), with his first film being Deewana (1992).

Kelkar recently starred in Yami Gautam’s Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga.
