Kapil Sharma on Why He Decided to Act in Zwigato

At a press conference for the trailer launch of Nandita Das’ latest directorial Zwigato, starring Kapil Sharma, the actor revealed why Das offered him the role, and the reasons he accepted it. The Indian Express reported that because Sharma has been an admirer of her work, he believes, “You have a certain amount of trust in them that whatever they bring to you will be work of sincerity.” He expressed that while Das was narrating the plot to him for the first time, he asked her why she wanted to cast him, and her response was frank. According to The Indian Express, Sharma recalled, “She said that for this film even if a global star like Shah Rukh Khan would agree to do it, she would say no. So then I asked her again, ‘Why me then?’ She said, ‘You have a face like an aam aadmi (common man). You look like you could be from anywhere in India and hence suitable for my character.’”
