On Thursday, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan 2 released the song ‘Chinnanjiru Nilave’, the fourth single of the sequel. The song depicts the fractured relationship between Adithya Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandhini (Aishwarya Rai) : childhood sweethearts eventually becoming sworn enemies.

The song is a poignant, heart-rending take on lost love and resentment. AR Rahman’s melodious tunes are elevated by Hariharan’s soothing voice and Ilango Krishnan’s soulful lyrics. The song has been released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages. While the first part ended on a cliffhanger with Karikalan vowing to take revenge on Nandhini, the lyric video, featuring stills of their interactions, indicates a major confrontation between the two characters in the sequel.

Chinnanjiru Nilave is the fourth track in Ponniyin Selvan songs after ‘Aga Naga’, ‘Veera Raja Veera’ and ‘Shivoham’. Helmed by Mani Ratnam, the magnum opus features Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Vikram in prominent roles. The movie has been lensed by Ravi Varman, while Sreekar Prasad has edited it.  Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name, the film is slated to hit the theatres on April 28.
