Actor Vijay's 65th film is going to be with a young director who struck gold with his very first film. He teams up with Nelson Dilipkumar for a film with Sun Pictures. Vijay's 64th film Master, with Lokesh Kanagaraj, saw its release get pushed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and is expected to hit the big screen sometime in early 2021.
Nelson's debut Kolamavu Kokila, starring Nayanthara, set the cash registers ringing and his sophomore venture Doctor, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Priyanka Mohan, is awaiting release. The announcement of the Vijay film is a shot in the arm for the director, who showed a yen for quirky humour with his very first film. Kolamavu Kokila was a rib-tickling thriller high on laughs and low on action.
For Thalapathy 65, one can expect the filmmaker to arrive with a truckload of firearms. That's what Kanagaraj also demonstrated in the recently-released teaser for the Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram.
Vijay's collaborations with both Lokesh and Nelson are much looked forward to. Also these directors have showcased their stars in never-before-seen avatars. No one knows when shoot begins, since the pandemic is still a threat for shooting schedules.
The film produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures will have music by Anirudh. He's worked on the soundtrack and score for Master too. And yes, Anirudh is the single-most unifying factor among all the announcements in the quarantine period — he's also been working on Kamal Haasan's Indian 2.
If things go smoothly, Thalapathy 65 may reach you next year, but you may still be required to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
