Team Behind Fahadh Faasil’s Maheshinte Prathikaram Reunites For Dileesh Pothan’s Joji

After several high-profile announcements, and a highly controversial standoff that followed Aashiq Abu's Prithiviraj-starrer Variyamkunnan, we've got news of Fahadh Faasil doing another film that will start next year. 

To be directed by Dileesh Pothan (who makes his third consecutive film with Faasil), the film has been titled Joji and it is said to be inspired by William Shakespeare's Macbeth. Like in their first collaboration Maheshinte Prathikaaram, Joji too is being written by Syam Pushkaran (Maayanadhi, Kumbalangi Nights) and shot by Shyju Khalid (Kumbalangi Nights). 

The film's first-look poster (with nothing but the title font and crew details) was posted on Fahadh Faasil's social media accounts. It is being produced by the same team that produced Kumbalangi Nights — Bhavana Studios along with Fahadh Faasil and Friends and Working Class Hero.  

Malayalam filmmakers making films based on Shakespeare's works are quite common. Director Jayaraj had previously made the award-winning Kaliyattam based on Othello, Kannagi based on Anthony and Cleopatra and, more recently, a tri-lingual named Veeram, based on Macbeth. 

In Hindi, Vishal Bhardwaj has made his own versions of Othello (Omkara), Hamlet (Haider)  and Macbeth (Maqbool). In the West, greats such as Akira Kurosawa (Throne Of Blood) and Roman Polanski (Macbeth in 1971) have made their interpretations as well.
