Trance is Anwar Rasheed's first film in eight years, after Ustad Hotel. The film has been delayed a few times, and has created a lot of hype through its psychedelic posters. It features Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya, Soubin Shahir, Dileesh Pothan and Gautham Vasudev Menon (who features prominently in the trailer).
The trailer reveals little about Fahadh's character or the film's plot. We learn of the character's great wealth. We see him addressing what looks like a huge gathering of people. We are introduced to the other characters with visual cuts choreographed in sync to a beatbox-heavy background score. We are shown Fahadh's character pumping himself up by clapping rapidly in front a mirror and then a shot of him being applauded in a board meeting. Is he someone who can control what happens through his mind?
The only hint about the story is a dialogue by Gautham Menon's character that talks about how people are either masters or slaves. We hear Fahadh's voiceover saying we don't live in our own reality. Is he a rich tycoon gone rogue or a common man in a wish-fulfillment fantasy?
Written by Vincent Vadakkan, the film releases on February 20.
