SActor Kangana Ranaut made her debut at Cannes. She's been given the hottest ticket in the French Riviera by Smriti Irani (Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting) and Prasoon Joshi (Chairman, Central Board of Film Certification) and will be seen at the India Pavilion.
Ranaut wants you to remember that "focussing only on fashion at Cannes reduces its scope dramatically." She said in an interview with The Times of India, "It's the same with artistes when they are reduced to a glossy image and not seen as people with their own kind of potential."
She's also well aware that every appearance is a political statement in itself. I'm given to understand that she's carefully chosen a mix of international labels and homegrown brands for the entirety of her stay. For her much-awaited debut, she chose a shimmering Sabyasachi saree – his rendition of "akaash tara" or a night full of stars. It appears the designer, who also styled Anushka Sharma for her big fat wedding, can do no wrong.
The black sequinned saree was a fail-safe choice. Not sure I can say that about that retro 'do by hair and makeup artist Brendon Degee though. I couldn't help but miss her trademark curls. The pearl choker (also by Sabysachi) was a nice touch. All in all, I quite like her Sadhna-meets-Audrey-Hepburn take, and can't wait to see more of her.
