Muthiah Muralidaran’s biopic titled 800 is directed by debutant MS Sripathy, who had previously worked together with PA Ranjith and Venkat Prabhu. The trailer for the film was officially unveiled by Sachin Tendulkar with Muthiah Muralidaran in attendance at the trailer launch in Mumbai. The film starring Madhur Mittal as the cricketing legend is a deep dive into the professional as well as personal life of the celebrated cricketer and also shows the history of Srilankan politics and cricket in the process.
The trailer begins with the events from the 1970s and goes on to chart the hardships and challenges the cricketer had to go through in an adverse political climate to realise his dream of playing for his country. 800 also deals with many sensitive issues like the persecution faced by Srilankan Tamils and the role of sports in the country over many years.
The period sports film co-stars Mahima Nambiar, Naren, Naaser, and Vela Ramamurthy Riythvika in supporting roles. RD Rajasekar ISC has lensed the film, while Praveen KL has handled the editing. The film has music by Ghibran and is all set to be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English.
