Ali Fazal’s psychological horror film The Underbug will be screened at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023. After a world premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Film, the film will now have a special screening for audiences in Melbourne.
Commenting on this development Fazal, who is also an Executive Producer for the film said, "We are thrilled to have 'The Underbug' being showcased at the esteemed Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Our first outing with the film was a stellar success and it’s personally a film that is close to my heart. It’s one heck of a trip and a genre I have never done before, and I’m so proud to be a part of it. The film is experimental in all the right ways and it’s thrilling that a whole new set of audiences at the festival will witness the film”.
The Underbug tells the story of two rioters who find an abandoned bungalow and take refuge as communal riots spread across the country. While they are unsure of each other’s intentions, things take a frightening turn when they feel there is an eerie presence in the bungalow that starts threatening their sanity.
