Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari to direct film based on the life of Devika Rani and Himanshu Rai

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is set to direct her next film based on the life of the duo Devika Rani and Himanshu Rai. Tiwari is known for her grounded storytelling in movies like Nil Battey Sannata (2015), Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), and Panga (2020).

Rani was known as the “first lady” of Indian cinema and her husband Himanshu Rai was a prolific actor and businessman. Both set up India's first professional film studio, Bombay Talkies. Tiwari has allegedly tied up with a big Indian studio for this project.

The untitled project is still in the scripting stage. Vikramaditya Motwane’s Jubilee recently showed us a glimpse of the old Bollywood of the 1940s and 50s.
