In an exclusive interview with Chhaya Kadam at the Cannes Film Festival for her two film screenings at the festival, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light and Karan Kandhari’s Sister Midnight. This year has been spectacular for Kadam as she was also seen in prominent roles in Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies and Kunal Kemmu’s Madgaon Express. Talking about her struggling days in the industry, going to the set to shoot just one scene, the actress explained her journey from the time she began to where she is today.
‘Ye saal hai mere liye bahot important.’ (This year is very important for me), Kadam said while talking to Anupama Chopra.
“Shuru to mene ek ek scene bhi kiya hai lekin uss waqt vo bhi mujhe bahot aise lagta tha my god mein screen pe dikhne wali hun, bahot baar toh aise phone aata tha ki yaha yaha pochna hai, ye hai kuch ek scene karna hai toh mein na raat se tayari karti thi my god kal pochna hai mujhe shoot hai mera, toh phir nikalti thi aur studio ke gate pe pohochti thi aur pata chalta tha ki aree vo cancel hogaya aapka, toh bahot bura lagta tha.” (In the initial days, I have done one scene too and that time it was so overwhelming for me to see myself on the screen. Often I used to get calls saying that you have to reach here for one scene, that whole night I used to prepare myself that I have to shoot the next day but after leaving home the next day and reaching the studio they used to inform me that the shoot has been canceled and that made me feel very bad.)
Kadam has also been a part of films like Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), Jawan (2023) Andhadhun (2018) to name a few.
