Exclusive! Chamkila Wouldn’t Have Been Made Without Diljit Dosanjh says, Imtiaz Ali
In an exclusive interview with Rohini Ramanathan on the sets of Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming directorial film Chamkila based on the Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila who was shot dead at the age of 27, spoke about what motivated him to make the film and the reason behind signing Diljit Dosanjh who plays the titular character in the film to play the role.
“If Diljit wouldn’t have been there or if he wasn’t around to play this part, I don’t think that the movie would have been made at all and definitely not in the way it was made.”
He further adds, “For one thing I wanted the actor to sing the part, looking for an actor singer because all the songs of Chamkila that we have done in this film have been naturally recorded live.”
Chamika also stars Parineeti Chopra who plays Amarjot Kaur, a female vocalist in Chamkila’s band. The film will premiere on Netflix on April 12.
