Diljit Dosanjh’s film Punjab ‘95 is the only film from India that will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year. The movie is based on the life of well-known human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Directed by Honey Trehan, the film also stars Arjun Rampal and Surinder Vicky in important roles.

Punjab ‘95 is set in 1990s Punjab and tells the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who was a bank employee and human rights activist. He lived with his wife and two children and was far removed from controversy of any kind. But his regular middle-class life faces turmoil when someone close to him disappears. The search for this loved one draws Jaswant into situations that are dangerous for him and his family.

The film is yet to receive clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and is also embroiled in legal proceedings at the Bombay High Court. Punjab ‘95 is produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP Movies, in association with MacGuffin Pictures.
