Farhan Akhtar Drops the First Teaser of Don 3- Announces a New Era

Farhan Akhtar has announced Don 3 with a short video that he shared on his social media page. The video has the number 3 forming on the screen in a stylised red colour. The words ‘A new era begins’ then appear on screen. While the video doesn’t feature the word Don, the signature tune playing in the background makes it amply clear that Akhtar is announcing the third film in the franchise after Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011) which starred Shah Rukh Khan as the titular character. Both these films were directed by Akhtar who reimagined the characters from the original Don (1978) that starred Amitabh Bachchan. 

According to some reports, Ranveer Singh has been cast as the new Don, after Khan expressed his unwillingness to be a part of a third film in the franchise. A report in Bollywood Hungama quotes a source close to the project who shared, “The teaser of Don 3 will be out this week in the digital world. The team is very excited to introduce Ranveer Singh as the new Don to this young generation of cinema-going audience. The introduction will happen through a proper teaser, which will drop digitally in the next 2 to 3 days.”

The source also added that the official teaser of Don 3 may be added to the print of Gadar 2 which releases on August 11. “Gadar 2 is an action film, which is expected to set the box office on fire. Farhan Akhtar and co. are keen to screen the teaser of Don 3 at national chains all across the country. The same teaser might be screened with Ranveer’s own, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 as well.” the source shared. 

More details and an official confirmation that Singh has been cast as the new Don is awaited from the makers.
