Fatima Sana Shaikh on Sam Bahadur: ‘I played the character with honesty’

In a recent media interview, Fatima Sana Shaikh who essayed the role of Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the Vicky Kaushal starrer Sam Bahadur (2023) opened up about the challenges she faced while portraying a real-life political figure.

“I didn't face any challenges because Meghna was incredibly supportive. She not only provided guidance but also walked me through the entire process, pointing me in the right direction. Any queries or issues I encountered were promptly addressed by her. Her assistance made my journey exceptionally smooth and comfortable,” Shaikh said,

On shouldering the responsibility of playing a prominent character on the big screen, the actress said, “I played the character with honesty. I wanted to capture the soul of it, and Meghna Gulzar really helped me with that. She was very clear about what she wanted from me, what she wanted from the character. So, I really trusted in her process and tried to do what she wanted me to do.”

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra along with Kaushal in the lead role. The film released in theatres on December 1, 2023 and is now available to stream on Zee5.
