FC at TIFF 2023: When Guneet Monga Gatecrashed Karan Johar’s Table at a film festival

Producer Guneet Monga who is currently at the Toronto Film Festival with her film KILL produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta shared an anecdote in an exclusive interview with Film Companion about collaborating with Johar 10 years ago for Lunchbox (2013) starring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Monga shared that when she was at the Cannes 10 years ago, struggling to sell her movie, Lunchbox, when she met Johar for the first time. The director was at the Cannes Film Festival with his film Bombay Talkies (2013) to be screened at the film festival marking 100 years of Indian Cinema.

She said that Johar was keen on collaborating for a love story and therefore agreed to watch Lunchbox. When they flew back to India, Monga arranged for a special screening for the producer and it was surprising to see him teary eyed by the end of the film. That’s how Johar and Monga teamed up for Lunchbox and in 2023 they reunited once again for KILL.

KILL is directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt and also stars Laksh Lalwani, Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala
