Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma says he took inspiration from Ramayan and Mahabharat for the film

At the trailer launch event of Gadar 2, the film’s producer and director Anil Sharma revealed that the film’s story is inspired by events from the Ramayan and Mahabhat. 

Responding to a question from a journalist who asked if the scene of Deol lifting a cartwheel or the father and son facing enemies together was inspired by incidents from the Mahabharata, Sharma said, "Katha toh main Ramayan, Mahabharat se hi leta hu. Pichli film bhi Ramayan hi thi, Ram ko Sita ko lene ke liye Lanka mein aate hai. Yeh bhi dekhiye kya hota hai (I always take stories from Ramayan and Mahabharat. The prequel was also based on Ramayan, when Lord Ram has to bring back Goddess Sita from Lanka. Watch this movie, and you'll find a reference)."

The Gadar 2 trailer was launched on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas and will see Deol, Patel and Sharma reprise their characters from Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). The film is produced by Zee Studios, Anil Sharma Productions and MM Movies and will release in theatres on August 11.
