Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta’s film Koi Mil Gaya (2003) will re-release in theatres on August 4 to mark the 20th anniversary of the film’s original release date. The film will be screened in 30 cities only with limited screens, but if there is an increased demand for tickets, more prints may be released.
Koi Mil Gaya, directed by Rakesh Roshan told the story of an intellectually challenged man Rohit (Roshan) who meets and befriends a lost alien in the forest near his home. The kind-hearted alien, whom Rohit names Jadoo, gives him special powers to help him overcome his limitations. Rohit falls in love with Nisha (Zinta) and helps Jadoo return to his home.
Koi Mil Gaya’s sequel Krrish (2006)featured Roshan as Rohit and Nisha’s son Krrish who also has his father’s special powers. The third film in the franchise, Krrish 3 (2013) saw Roshan as Krrish battling the evil Kaal played by Vivek Oberoi. Krrish 4 is reportedly under development and will start filming next year.
Several films have been re-released in theatres recently and received a warm response from audiences. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Jab We Met (2007) were released to coincide with Valentine’s Day week. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) was released in theatres again on June 9 and saw audiences eager to see the film again.
