Kajol promotes her streaming debut The Trial: The spending power is 99.9% in the man’s hand

In an interview with Film Companion, Kajol who is currently promoting her upcoming web series, The Trial- Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, spoke about why movies which got theatrical releases never opened avenues for women in the movie business whereas the men have constantly got an upper hand when it came to storytelling.

“It has to do with the spending power...it has to do with the spending power because the spending power is 99.9% in the man's hands and you don't have that big a spend power in the female side of the population,” revealed the actress while speaking to Anupama Chopra.

She further added, “They may manage things in the house etc; but at the end of the day spending power, to be able to spend on a movie ticket, I'm not talking about the groceries of the house but I'm talking about a movie ticket, the luxuries of life, you would consider movies a luxury, is in the hands of the man and they are making the decision as to which film they want to go for and which they don't want to.”

Directed by Suparn S Varma, the series stars Kajol, Kubbra Sait, Jisshu Sengupta, Sheeba Chaddha in pivotal roles. The series premieres on Disney+Hotstar from July 14 onwards.
