Karthik Subbaraj Shares ‘Oyyaram’ Video Song, Pens A Heartfelt Note About Jigarthanda Doublex

After a successful theatrical run, Karthik Subbaraj’s latest blockbuster Jigarthanda Doublex (2023) is now available to stream on Netflix. The film starring Raghawa Lawrence and SJ Suryah in the lead, is the spiritual sequel to Subbaraj’s cult classic Jigarthanda (2014).  Jigarthanda Doublex features the ideological clash between a gangster and a faux filmmaker in the 1970s, collaborating on a fake movie only to be entwined in a bigger political conspiracy. Karthik Subbaraj recently shared the exclusive video song titled ‘Oyyaram’ which comes at a crucial juncture in the film’s final hour. The song has already been widely celebrated for its texture and vocals, serving as a welcome change from the usual peppy songs used in dance numbers in commercial films.

The video song features a dance number featuring the film’s supporting cast mostly consisting of members from a tribal community that plays the villagers in the film, along with the film’s lead actors. The song composed by Santhosh Narayan, is an ode to tribal music and has vocals rendered by singers like Meenakshi Elayaraja, Meenakshi Santhosh, Aditya Ravindran and also Santhosh Narayanan. The film also features Sanchana Natarajan, Nimisha Sajayan, Naveen Chandra and Shine Tom Chacko.
