On Mammootty’s birthday (September 7), the makers of his next film, Bramayugam, shared the first look poster. The horror thriller is directed by Rahul Sadasivan of Bhoothakaalam (2022) fame and has reportedly cast the superstar in a negative role.
The first look poster features Mammootty in stark black and white imagery, sitting back shirtless as an ageing figure with prosthetic teeth that terrifies at the very first glimpse. The look harks back to one of Mammootty’s most iconic characters from the art house classic Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Vidheyan (1994) in the way of Mammootty's devilish smile and appearance. He plays Bhaskara Patelar in Vidheyan, a cruel, tyrant devoid of any human traits and that role is still counted among one of his finest performances to date. The similarity between the looks of these characters has piqued the interest of the viewers.
Bramayugam will also feature Arjun Ashokan, Siddharth Bharathan and Amalda Diaz. The film bankrolled jointly by Night Shift Studios and Y Not Studios is touted to be based on a mythical fable from Kerala's lesser-known history and revolves around the happening within a haunted mansion. Shehnad Jalal is the cinematographer and Christo Xavier is the music composer. The film is currently under production and is expected to hit the screens in the first half of 2024.
