In an age where streaming connects our content to the rest of the world and creates a brand for our films abroad, the need to have good quality mainstream cinema represented from the country at the highest level is a given. Netflix has been making its presence felt in the South, acquiring some big tentpole films in recent times. The streaming platform seems to have secured the exclusive rights to some of the most talked about and anticipated Telugu films of the year. Apart from Prabhas Salaar which was released on Netflix recently, the roster is full of titles either in production or in various stages of post-production.

The popularity and cultural impact of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa (2021) needs no introduction. This rags-to-riches story of a red sandalwood smuggler, who gets embroiled in an ego tussle with a local police chief, is one of the most entertaining takes on themes of an underdog's innate search for identity and the way the world perceives one who thinks he has achieved it all. Be it the leading man’s masterful swag, the world building or the scale of execution common in the films of Sukumar. Pushpa 2: The Rule is only getting wilder than its predecessor.

Cast: Junior NTR, Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan
Pegged as one of the most anticipated Telugu films, this is Junior NTR’s next after the blockbuster RRR (2022). Helmed by hitmaker Koratala Shiva, the film also features Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor. The recently released teaser offered a glimpse into the world of Devara accompanied by Anirudh’s thunderous score, and the wait just got better.

Nandamuri Balakrishna will be next seen in the yet-to-be-titled action thriller NBK 109, which is directed by Bobby. The team is currently in the early stages of production of the film and released a first-look poster featuring deadly weapons with the caption, “ "Blood bath ka brand name" and "violence ka visiting card," which sums up the film's world.

The union between the acclaimed director of Jersey (2019) and Vijay Deverakonda has been in the air for some time now. Netflix has already bagged the rights to this project that’s still in the nascent stages of its production. While the other details are kept under wrap, the period drama will see Vijay play a spy entrapped in a world of deceit and conspiracies.

This romantic comedy has been in production for two years now and the film is an official spin featuring the main character ‘DJ Tillu’ from the movie of the same name. This project which has been delayed multiple times over the years is finally getting its release date and is expected to be a funnier update on the iconic character from the original film.

A gangster drama set in the milieu of local politics and the underworld of Godavari and Eluri coastal towns in the 1980s, this epic film stars Vishwak Sen as the lead with Nassar and Nora Fatehi appearing in other pivotal roles.

Yet another Siddhu Jonnalagadda starrer has found its way into the Netflix lineup this year, tentatively titled SVCC37. It is directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar.

Buddy is the remake of the Arya starrer Teddy (2021) which tells the story of the relationship between a man and a talking, alive teddy bear that is put in a dangerous spot. The film which features Allu Sirish in the lead role promises to be a fun entertainer.

Cast: Narne Nithin and Nayan Sarika
The yet-to-be-titled film marks the debut of Narne Nithin and is bankrolled by GA2 productions. Directed by Anji Babu Kanchipalli, the film features Nayan Sarika as the female lead. Kodati Pavan Kalyan is the editor and Sameer Kalyani is the cinematographer.

Karthikeya is all set to make his eighth feature film in association with UV Creations. The big-budget entertainer is being helmed by debutant director Prashant Reddy.
