SS Rajamouli has announced Made In India, a film based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, the Father of Indian Cinema. The film will be directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Rajamouli's son SS Karthikeya and Varun Gupta.
Rajamouli shared a teaser on X, formerly Twitter, announcing the film's title. The video also carried the text, 'Indian cinema has witnessed many biopics. This is a biopic of Indian cinema.' Rajamouli added a caption to his post where he wrote, “When I first heard the narration, it moved me emotionally like nothing else. Making a biopic is tough in itself, but conceiving one about the FATHER OF INDIAN CINEMA is even more challenging. Our boys are ready and up for it..:) With immense pride, Presenting MADE IN INDIA…”
Rajamouli's son Karthikeya also shared the teaser and wrote, “It’s been years since I wanted to fulfil my dream of becoming a producer. The moment has come. MADE IN INDIA… With utmost responsibility, taking this up as a challenge. Cheers to my producing partner, @VarunG0707, and the director @nitinrkakkar.”
Phalke, whose full name was Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, made the first full-length Indian feature film Raja Harsishchandra in 1913. He went on to make 95 feature-length films and 27 short films including movies like Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918) and Kaliya Mardan (1919). Made In India will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam and Kannada.
