It’s fitting that a Yash Raj Films production doubled up as the heroic return of Shah Rukh Khan. The global success of Pathaan emerged as a reminder that after all these years, nobody does scale, spectacle and action franchises like the grand old studio of Bollywood. It balanced out an underwhelming two-year slate (featuring Samrat Prithviraj, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Shamshera and Tiger 3), expanding the stage for a superstar-laden, spy-universe future. This coincided with the birth of YRF’s streaming ambitions – better late than never – with the ‘viral’ docuseries The Romantics and the wildly popular Netflix show, The Railway Men.
