How We Compiled the FC-Ormax Power List of Production Companies

Eligibility Criteria

All production houses who have produced at least one theatrical film or OTT series/film or GEC (general entertainment category) show, with footfalls/viewership of 1 million or more in India, from January 2022 to December 2023. For properties with multiple producers, all producers were considered. The Power List is not a ranking and is arranged in alphabetical order.

Parameters

1. Audience Size (Cumulative): Total footfalls/viewership of all properties produced by the production house in the time period (2022-23).

2. Audience Size (Average): Average footfalls/viewership of all properties produced by the production house in the time period (2022-23).

3. Audience Likeability: Average Ormax Power Rating (OPR) of all properties produced by the production house in the time period (2022-23).

4. Profitability: Average % profit vis-à-vis cost of production and release, of all properties produced by the production house in the time period (2022-23). For properties that have multiple producers, Profitability may vary for each, depending on their deals with each other, and the terms with the eventual IP holder. These were estimated using industry sources.

Steps

1. On each of the four parameters, eligible production houses were scored. Production houses who feature in the top 25 on at least one parameter were shortlisted for further analysis.

2. Among these shortlisted production houses, rank points were assigned. For example, if the shortlist has 52 production houses, the top-ranking production house on any parameter will be assigned 52 points, no. 2 will be assigned 51 points, and so on, with the no. 52 being assigned 1 point.

3. For each production house, cumulative points will be calculated across the parameters by giving weightages of 40%, 20%, 30% & 20% respectively to the four parameters. Ranking based on cumulative points was used to identify the Top 25 as the power list.
