Salt and Pepper, penned by Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair, was a turning point in the burgeoning new wave in Malayalam cinema. The writer, who is known for his screenwriting style emphasising on a strain of poetic realism and character-based dramas, is one of the most acclaimed writers of modern-day mainstream Malayalam cinema. Syam Pushkaran has been instrumental in reinforcing the place of the ‘writer’ in relation to the medium, with his richly textured dialogues and lyrical approach to screenplays. The writer who made his debut solo screenplay credit with the blockbuster Maheshinte Prathikaram (2016) has not had to look back ever since. Syam has also been on a roll as a producer with films like Palthu Janwar and Premalu.
