Salman Khan's Tubelight releases on June 25 this year. Its teaser trailer will be out this week. Post the box office impact of Baahubali 2, milestones like 100 Crore, 200 Crore or even 300 Crore seem a bit modest. But leaving that aside as an outlier, Salman Khan films have an impact on Hindi audiences that no other star has been able to match since the release of Dabangg in 2010.
Salman Khan has had 10 releases from Dabangg till Sultan. Each of these films have crossed 100 Crore at the domestic box office, and two of his last three releases have passed the 300 Crore mark.
Till Bajrangi Bhaijaan happened, the content quality of Salman Khan films was always under question. All his films managed to register huge numbers on the strength of their first week, eventually ending in the 150-200 Crore range, as can be seen in the chart below. Jai Ho, the weakest of the lot, barely crossed the 100 Crore mark.
But after Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan, there are expectations that a Salman Khan film will have legs beyond its huge opening. Will Tubelight become the third in the list?
