Amazon Prime Video's first big streaming series of the year Tandav, is a drama set in the murky world of Indian politics from creator Ali Abbas Zafar. With an ensemble cast including Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, the series offers a heightened take on the Indian political circus, bursting with backstabbing, betrayal, rivalry and plenty of treacherous twists and turns along the way. While obvious comparisons have been made to shows like Mirzapur and House Of Cards and movies like Raajneeti, here's our list of five films and series set in the world of politics which you might want to dive into next if you enjoyed Tandav.

Sarkar

Ram Gopal Varma's brought his hallmark grittiness to his tribute to The Godfather which stars Amitabh Bachchan as Subhash Nagre, a controversial figure who's seen as a saviour for some and criminal to others. Set in a world of gangsters and seedy politicians, the film follows the various attempts by his enemies to dethrone him, leaving it to his son Shankar (Abhishek Bachchan) to step up to the plate and take down the family's enemies and carry Sarkar's legacy forward.

Nayak

In this 2001 film, Anil Kapoor played a different kind of angry young man figure offering a more commercial take on what we wish a politician was – an almost vigilante-esque figure who dols out justice against the corrupt left, right and centre. After complaining about the numerous problems faced by the common man, an ambitious TV reporter (played by Kapoor) is given the opportunity to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for 24 hours. In a day's span he's able to fix more issues than those in power leading to a rousing power struggle between good and evil as the people rally with their new hero and attempt to overthrow those in power.

Designated Survivor

The Netflix series follows Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), a low-level cabinet member whose seemingly normal life is completely uprooted when an explosion kills everyone in line for the presidency, except him. Labelled as the designated survivor, Tom is the new President. The show follows his struggles to manage his new career and family life while also proving himself worthy to run a country full of people who think he's far from capable.

Madam Secretary

A former CIA analyst, Elizabeth Adams McCord's life as head of the United States Department of State is the focus of this series on Amazon Prime Video starring Tea Leoni which is said to be loosely based on Hilary Clinton. Her days are kept busy dealing with everything from dirty bombs on US soil to a coup in Iran, to kidnappings and beyond, all while preparing her own campaign for the presidency.

The Politician

An extremely wealthy student has his sights set on becoming President since the age of seven. His journey has to begin with being elected as the president of the school student body by outwitting the competition and all this while, maintaining his positive image. The Netflix series follows Payton's journey from high-school to university level politics as he eventually enrols into NYU and runs for a seat in the New York State Senate. The Politician offers a more humorous yet no less insightful take on the political circus and how it can present itself in the minds of the young.
